All incoming first-year students will complete placement testing during Orientation.  These tests ensure that Academic Advisors help students create a successful schedule of coursework and maximize your opportunity for success in the future.

Each student will complete a math and foreign language (Spanish, French, German, or Latin) exam.  Students planning to take Chemistry as part of their degree program or in pursuit of a Pre- Health Professional field will be required to complete a chemistry exam.  These do not require a calculator.

Students with prior credit (transfer or dual enrollment credits) are exempt.  Students with backgrounds in languages other than Spanish, French, German or Latin are exempt from the language testing. Students with pending AP results will take the exams.

If you have questions about testing, please contact the Office of Student Activities and Engagement at SAE@umw.edu or 540-654-1061.
