Checklist for Students

Before you Arrive:

___ Register for Orientation at orientation.umw.edu/register/

___ Explore the Orientation website at orientation.umw.edu/

___ Set up your UMW email account! Having trouble? Contact the IT help desk at helpdesk@umw.edu or (540) 654-2255

___ Check your UMW email account every day

___ Know your NetID and password. You will use your NetID and password for everything!

___ Review the map/directions to make sure you are parking in the correct location

___ Follow UMW Orientation on social media @umworientation

 

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes for Day 1 and Day 2. It’s casual so no need to dress up! It can be pretty hot during June in Virginia, so it may be a good idea to bring an extra change of clothes. You will have some time in the afternoon on Day 1 to change if you would like. (This should include PJs)
  • Sheets, A Blanket, A Pillow, A Towel, & Any toiletries that you might need to feel comfortable (toothbrush, soap, shampoo, deodorant, and any other hygiene products you might need)
  • Alarm Clock/Electronics Chargers, An umbrella, Sunscreen—always be prepared!
  • Driver’s license or government ID (you’ll need it to get your EagleOne Card)
  • Your UMW NetID and password
  • A good attitude!

 

Checklist for Guests

Before you Arrive:

___ Register and pay under the “Guests” tab on your student’s orientation registration

___ Explore the Orientation website at orientation.umw.edu/

___ Make reservations for overnight accommodations. We only provide overnight accommodations for incoming students. You can learn more about local hotels at orientation.umw.edu/families-guests/#lodging .

___ Review the map/directions to make sure you are parking in the correct location

 

What to Bring:

___ Driver’s license or government ID

___ Comfortable clothing and shoes for Day 1 and Day 2. It’s casual and hot outside so no need to dress up!

___ Cash for the Parent Reception Cash Bar and/or Money for any UMW gear you would like to pick up while you are here

___ A good attitude!

 

Directions & Parking Instructions

Day 1 Parking:

Students and Guests will drive into Double Drive and park in either George Washington Hall, Double Drive, Jefferson Square, or Randolph lots. There will be police officers on site to direct parking.

If you are using a GPS or a phone app for directions, type in “Double Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22401” for Day 1 parking

 

Day 2 Parking:

Guests will park in the Thornton or Pizza Hut lots. Handicap parking is located in the Anderson Center parking lot. Following Orientation activities, students will pick up their luggage from the Colonnade Room and reconnect with guests.

If you are using a GPS or a phone app for directions, type in “Thornton St” for Day 2 parking

Directions from I-95 South (From DC/Northern Virginia)

  • Take exit 133A to merge onto US-17 BUS S/Warrenton Rd toward Falmouth
  • Merge onto US-17 BUS S/Warrenton Rd (1.8 miles)
  • Turn right onto US-1 S/Cambridge St (1.3 miles)
  • Turn left onto College Ave (0.5 miles)
  • Turn left onto Double Dr

Directions from I-95 North (From Richmond)

  • Take exit 130A to merge onto VA-3 E/Plank Rd toward Fredericksburg
  • Merge onto VA-3 E/Plank Rd (1.1 miles)
  • Use the far left lane to turn left onto William St (0.5 miles)
  • Turn left onto College Ave (0.1 miles)
  • Turn right onto Double Dr

Directions from U.S. Route 1 North

  • Turn right onto College Ave. (0.5 miles)
  • Turn left onto Double Drive

Directions from U.S. Route 1 South

  • Turn left onto College Ave. (0.5 miles)
  • Turn left onto Double Drive

Directions from VA Route 3 East

  • Use the far left lane to turn left onto William St (0.5 miles)
  • Turn left onto College Ave (0.1 miles)
  • Turn right onto Double Dr

Directions from VA Route 3 West

  • Turn right onto William St (0.5 miles)
  • Turn left onto College Ave (0.1 miles)
  • Turn right onto Double Dr
