We couldn’t discuss the importance of our core value of social justice without talking about the strides taken by Martin Luther King, Jr. He has been described as “A man of conscience; the freedom movement of which he was a beacon; and his message of freedom, equality, justice and love.” It is because of this, and so much more, we will be taking a day trip into Washington, DC with our first stop at the Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial. Students will have the opportunity to have small group discussions with their Student Leaders about his impact and how his work towards equality continues today. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the Lincoln Memorial and the National Museum of American History. We will end our day with dinner with UMW alumni at Ben’s Chili Bowl. Ben’s Chili Bowl is a very popular establishment in DC serving everyone from Bill Cosby to President Obama.
