First-Year Summer Orientation – What To Expect

First-year orientation sessions will be a two-day experience.*

Day One: Begins at 8:45am (Check-In will begin as early as 7:30am)

Students will begin the day with the opportunity to learn real world skills to assist their collegiate success. Families and guests will have the opportunity to learn about the course registration process, student life on campus, student accounts, and financial aid.

In the afternoon, students will join their families and guests for the opportunity to explore educational sessions. The day will last until 6:00pm for families and guests.  Students will stay on campus for evening programming and then spend the night in one of the residence halls. Lodging will not be provided for guests, please refer to the Lodging and Accommodations page.

Day Two: Begins at 8:00am

Students will learn more about life at UMW, meet with an academic advisor, and register for courses.

Families and guests will learn what to expect in their students’ first year and find out more about safety on campus, resources available to support physical and mental health, and how to best support their student through the first year. The day will wrap up between 12:00 – 1:00pm.
