The Transfer Semester Experience

Entering a new institution, regardless of how much college experience you have, can often be a challenge. Academic expectations, traditions, cultural norms, resources, and opportunities are vastly different from one college to the next. The Transfer Semester Experience will support you as you navigate these first critical months at UMW. Its purpose is to engage and involve you with the life of the University, connect you to opportunities and resources, forge community between you and others who are navigating this shared transfer experience together, and support you in a highly individualized and focused way as you endeavor to be successful.

This program is designed to help you adapt to UMW’s academic expectations. Participating in this experience will involve (1) a seminar of programs, workshops, and speakers designed to enhance engagement and involvement with the University’s efforts to support student success, (2) networking lunches, and (3) personalized and focused academic advising involving professional and faculty advisors. It is required that all transfer students participate in at least three sessions of the program so that you can make the most of your first semester experience at UMW.

The fall semester Transfer Semester Experience will kick off on Thursday, August 30 with a mixer and chance to meet the officers of the Transfer Club. We will continue to hold events Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm during the first part of the fall semester. Please reference the attached schedule for specifics.
