Summer Orientation – Brief Overview Schedule*

*Please note:  Orientation schedules are subject to change.  You will receive an up-to-date and descriptive schedule upon Orientation Check-In and more details will be posted to this site in April. Please use the following times to help plan your travel schedule.

First-Year Orientation

These sessions will be a two-day experience.

Day One: Begins at 8:45 am (Check-In will begin as early as 7:30 am).

Families and guests will have the opportunity to learn about the course registration process, student life on campus, student accounts, and financial aid while students learn real world skills to assist in their collegiate success.

Families and guests will have the opportunity to explore educational sessions with their students. The day will last until 6pm for families and guests.  Students will stay on campus for more evening programming.

Day Two: Begins at 8am

Students will learn more about life at UMW, meet with an academic advisor, and register for courses.

Families and guests will learn what to expect in their students’ first year and find out more about safety on campus, resources available to support physical and mental health, and how to best support their student through the first year. The day will wrap up between 12 – 1 pm.

Please visit this site again in May to view a more robust description of the programmed events for Orientation.

Transfer Orientation

These sessions will be a one-day experience.

The day typically begins at 9am (Check-In will begin as early as 7am) and will wrap up between 5 – 6 pm. Students are encouraged to contact the Office of Academic and Career Services at 540-654-1010 for course registration prior to their arrival. Time will, however, be provided for any additional advising necessary and for students to take care of business they may have on campus.

During the orientation program, students and their guests will have the opportunity to learn about student life on campus, student accounts, how to get engaged on their new campus, and will have the opportunity to explore educational sessions together.

If you are in need of lodging, please refer to the section below titled, “Lodging and Accommodations.”
