What is NEST?
NEST offers a unique opportunity to bond with other incoming students as you explore UMW and the surrounding community. Participants in the program are placed in small groups with an upperclass student leader to shepherd them through getting acquainted with the university and surrounding Fredericksburg community. Students are challenged to step outside their comfort zone in a supportive environment designed to encourage their growth.
Historically, NEST groups have explored downtown Fredericksburg, challenged themselves in Escape Rooms, and participated in service projects. NEST is a great way to give participants a jump start to their time at Mary Washington.
The NEST program is led by current students at UMW that have demonstrated excellent leadership and engagement skills. Each leader brings a unique perspective of our institution and our community that they are very excited to share!
Incoming residential students participating in the NEST program move into their housing assignment early. The program is open to both on and off-campus students.
NEST will take place Saturday, August 17 – Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
