Syllabus Tips:
Write in class and lab times each week. Write in all assignments on their due date. Break up the pieces of each project/paper into chunks of enough time to complete each. Write in chunks and reminders to work on each thing with enough time to get it done. Don't forget weekly reading or assignments - they take time to complete, too! Make it colorful and clear. Write specific actionable tasks and keep daily "to do" lists.

Week 1 Facilitator’s Guide!

Week 1: Syllabus Tips & Tricks Facilitator's Guide
Start with the big stuff - put these in your planner first. Every assignment, project, paper, and test on the date it's due. Add lab reports and other recurring assignments/quizzes. Put breaks and holidays so you don't plan work on those days your out of class.

Work backwards from deadlines. Give yourself a head start so you are never working late the night before! readings: write them 2 days early so you have time to read and take notes. Papers/projects: break into steps: 3 weeks before do the outline, 2 weeks before the draft, 1 week before edit. Exams- plan multiple study sessions starting 5 to 7 days in advance.

Fill in any smaller assignments so you don't forget them. Discussion posts, short reflections assignments, and intermediate steps on your way to bigger assignments often get forgotten. Write them down so they don't get lost!

Make it colorful and clear. Do what works for you, but some examples are: one color per class, or per assignment type.

Write specific actionable tasks. Instead of writing "work on paper," write "write out out thesis statement" or instead of saying "study for exam" write "review chapter 4 vocab" or "chapter 15 practice problems".
